Memorial Services
 
A Memorial Service is a service held to memorialize a person who has passed without their body being present. Memorial Services are most common following a cremation, however can be conducted for anyone that has passed away. A Memorial Services can take place any time after death, however it is commonly conducted within a few weeks of the death or around the first anniversary of the death.
 
A Memorial Service may be held in a number of places. They can held at a funeral home, religious place of worship, restaurant, banquet hall or at a location that carries a personal connection with the deceased, such as a favorite park or beach.
 
There is no formal structure to a Memorial Service. People may participate in the Memorial Service in a variety of ways, including family and friends speaking about the deceased and sharing memories, singing songs and playing music. The Memorial Service may also be religious in nature with clergy conducting the service and delivering prayers.
 
Following the Memorial Service, it is common to have a reception. This can be held at the funeral home, religious place of worship, family home, or another location that can accommodate those who attended the Memorial Service.
