Cremation

Cremation offers a low cost alternative to a traditional funeral. In fact, today cremations account for nearly 40 percent of the funeral services. Cremation may take place after a funeral service, or prior to a memorial service.

Traditional Funeral Service Followed By Cremation
A funeral service followed by a cremation is very similar to a traditional funeral except instead of the casket being buried, a cremation follows. There can still be the same visitation, and viewing as with a traditional service. The service can be held at a funeral home chapel or at a church. The cremation will follow the funeral service. The cremated remains can be scattered, buried or returned to the family in a cremation urn.

Cremation Followed By Memorial Service
The cremation generally takes place shortly after death followed by a memorial service sometime thereafter. The memorial service may take place weeks or months after the cremation. The cremated remains may be buried in a cemetery, taken home or scattered.

Direct Cremation
Also known as an immediate cremation or simple cremation. The remains are cremated and simply returned to the family without a funeral service, memorial service or graveside service.
